Chelsea Farmers Market Opens Saturday, May 4, 2013

For over 20 years the Chelsea Farmers Market has brought high-quality food and artisan products to the Chelsea community. This season promises several new vendors along with the return of musical entertainment and new events to engage the visitor, both young and old.

Flowers at the Market! Roses at the Market! Flowers at the Market!

"We are pleased to have 19 full-season vendors this year. Seasonal vendors include Back Forty Acres, Chandra June, Fresh Coffee Roasting, Frog Hollar Farms, Greystone Farm & Creamery, Heim Gardens, Kapnick Orchards, La Baguette, Merkel Gardens, Myer’s Berry Farm,  Papa Tom’s Cajun Boiled Peanuts, Ruhlig's Produce, Stone Hearth Bakery, H & H Sugarbush, Mama Mofoods, Tasty Bakery, Tantre Farm and Zatkovich Pastures" says Ashley Miller Helmholdt, Market Manager. The Market offers seasonal vegetables and fruits of all types, meat and poultry, eggs, honey, maple syrup, coffee, a wide variety of breads and bakery items, herbs, nuts, along with prepared artisan foods such as hummus, cheese, soup and barbeque andspaghetti sauces. Organic and naturally-grown offerings available. Hand-crafted artisan products include jewelry, soaps and lotions, hand dyed and spun yarn, wood crafts, dog beds, silk scarfs, purses, celtic arts and more.

For the second year, the market will also be offering the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which allows Bridge Cards to be used at the market information table in exchange for Bridge Card Tokens to purchase food items.  We are also thrilled to participate in the Double Up Food Bucks program starting in July.

“This program doubles the number of tokens for purchasing Michigan grown produce for Bridge Card customers, doubling their purchasing power and increasing vendor sales! We’re proud to office this service to the community!” says Miller Helmholdt.

Want to know what to expect each Saturday?

Send an email to coordinator@chelseafarmersmkt.org to join the Market email list. You'll receive a weekly email describing what vendors will be there that Saturday (including the group of 23 day vendors that come from time to time), what products you might expect, along with music and event listings. Chelsea MOPS will again sponsor the Children's Booth the second Saturday of each month and the Waterloo Area Historical Society plans several visits to share traditional skill demonstrations.
