For over 20 years the Chelsea Farmers Market has brought high-quality food and artisan products to the Chelsea community. This season promises several new vendors along with the return of musical entertainment and new events to engage the visitor, both young and old.
"We are pleased to have 14 full-season vendors this year. Returning are Back Forty Acres, Frog Hollar Farms, Greystone Farm & Creamery, Heim Gardens, Kapnick Orchards, Kapp Farms, Merkel Gardens, Ruhlig's Produce, Stone Hearth Bakery and Tantre Farm" says Stephanie Doll, Market Manager. "And our new full-season vendors should be quite well received! Cookies by Caitlin, Fairy Hill Woodworks, Johnny Secreto Foods and Papa Tom's Cajun Boiled Peanuts. Our customers know that after visiting our Market they will eat well-rounded, healthy, fresh meals from Saturday to Saturday. Local farms, all Michigan products!" The Market offers seasonal vegetables and fruits of all types, meat and poultry, eggs, honey, maple syrup, coffee, a wide variety of breads and bakery items, herbs, nuts, along with prepared artisan foods such as hummus, cheese, soup and barbeque andspaghetti sauces. Organic and naturally-grown offerings available. Hand-crafted artisan products include jewelry, soaps and lotions, hand dyed and spun yarn, wood crafts, dog beds, silk scarfs, purses, celtic arts and more.
New this year is a plan to provide Bridge card holders the ability to purchase food items using SNAP food assistance benefits. "We are putting together the final details, but it looks promising for a June or July start" remarks Doll. "We are pleased to be able to offer this service to the community."
Send an email to coordinator@chelseafarmersmkt.org to join the Market email list. You'll receive a weekly email describing what vendors will be there that Saturday (including the group of 23 day vendors that come from time to time), what products you might expect, along with music and event listings. Chelsea MOPS will again sponsor the Children's Booth the second Saturday of each month and the Waterloo Area Historical Society plans several visits to share traditional skill demonstrations.
The Chelsea Farmers Market is a vendor-run and is always looking for volunteers for assistance in running the market. If interested please contact coordinator@chelseafarmersmkt.org.
